"The Cautionary Tale" may seem like a warning against a dangerous man, when it is in fact about the fear of the unknown and how it can keep us from reaching our greatest heights. A young woman tells the tale of her abduction and how it brought her more knowledge than her small town would ever want her to possess.
lyrics
Beyond the town
Is a land
There lives a man
Who all know to fear
He walks in the shadows
And the warmth dies at his feet
And no one can sleep
When his hunt has begun.
I cannot go back to before
When his fist knocked on the door
And I knew I was doomed
I was pulled from my bed
The hair teared my head
And before I could think
We were gone in a blink
Never to be seen again
And that’s how I became
A tale to tell the dame
Don’t touch your hand
To the edge of the land
Where the devil lives
I spent some days
Counting away
To when the night rose
To banish the cold
And the man held to night
There was something about the moon
The way it hung from the gloom
Just like the sun
The dark had its fun
And I became the stars
I cannot go back to before
My eyes are wise and open
And dance like the wind in the sky
I found a courage to know
I used new knowledge to grow
And from a few weeds
Sprang a new seed
My mind became a field
Now I have become
A tale to tell the son
Don’t follow the path
To the witch’s wrath
Where none ever return
Don’t you want to come with me
D-don’t you want come with me.
